Baez, Phillies Agree To Two-Year Deal
The Phillies have added Danys Baez to their bullpen.
Sources told MLB.com on Thursday that Philadelphia and the reliever had agreed to a two-year contract pending a physical.
Baez, 32, went 4-6 with a 4.02 ERA in 59 appearances last season with the Orioles in 2009.
Oakland To Make Deal With Duchscherer Official
Justin Duchscherer had a physical late Tuesday and the Athletics could officially announce a one-year deal with the pitcher on Wednesday.
The contract is worth $2 million in guaranteed salary, but could go up to $5.5 million with incentives, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Bay Agrees To Join Mets
Free-agent outfielder Jason Bay has agreed to a four-year, $66 million contract with the Mets.
A source confirmed the agreement to ESPN.com on Tuesday.
The agreement will become official when Bay takes a physical at some point next week.
The deal reportedly includes a vesting option year that could increase Bay's overall payout to slightly more than $80 million over five years.
DeRosa Agrees To Deal With Giants
The Giants and free-agent infielder Mark DeRosa have agreed to terms on a two-year contract.
DeRosa took and passed his physical in San Francisco on Monday.
According to SI.com, the Giants offered DeRosa $12 million over the two seasons.
Nationals Add Bruntlett, Whitesell
The Nationals have agreed to terms with free-agent infielder Eric Bruntlett and first baseman Josh Whitesell on minor league contracts for 2010.
Both players received invitations to major league spring training.
Mets Reach Deal With Escobar
The Mets have finally reached a preliminary agreement on a one-year deal with free-agent pitcher Kelvim Escobar.
The contract will be worth $1.25 million, a source confirmed over the weekend.
Escobar, who won 18 games in 2007, has missed nearly all of the last two seasons because of injury.
Sources: Diamondbacks Add Howry To Pitching Staff
Reliever Bobby Howry has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Diamondbacks, sources confirmed to ESPN.com on Saturday.
Howry, 36, pitched for the Giants last season, going 2-6 with a 3.39 ERA in 63 games.
Duchscherer Stays With Athletics
The Athletics and free-agent pitcher Justin Duchscherer have agreed in principle on a one-year deal, a source told ESPN.com.
According to the source, the deal could be worth about $5.5 million if Duchscherer hits all of his incentives.
The agreement won't be official until Duchscherer passes a physical exam, which isn't expected to take place until after Christmas.
Duchscherer went 10-8 with a 2.54 ERA for the A's in 2008.
Guardado Gets Non-Guaranteed Deal From Nats
The Nationals have agreed to a one-year, non-guaranteed deal with reliever Eddie Guardado.
He won't be added to Washington's active roster and won't have a physical right away.
Guardado appeared in 48 games for the Rangers in 2009, going 1-2 with a 4.46 ERA.
Capps, Nationals Agree On One-Year Deal
The Nationals have agreed to a one-year deal with reliever Matt Capps.
Capps will be Washington's closer.
The deal is for $3.5 million for 2010, with a chance to make another $425,000 in performance bonuses.
"He's very confident in his ability," agent Paul Kinser said about Capps. "He knows next year he will go to arbitration and he's extremely confident that at that point that Washington will want to offer a one-year deal at that time. Matt is very happy with his decision. Although the conversation with the Cubs and Mets made it difficult, he decided this was the best way to go."
